UMBEARRA
STATION
Generations growing strong on desert country.
Located on the SA/NT border, Umbearra is our home base and the original property of the McKay family. The station covers approximately approx 3600 Km2, offering a diverse landscape of open granite country, mulga and spinifex ridges, gum-lined creeks, flood-out country and sandy hill country. We settled here in 1962, and I (Angus) represent the third generation to work the property.

Our herd is built around Red Angus genetics — a breed selected for fertility, growth. Drawing on decades of family experience and advice from rangeland specialists, we aim to run the station with a conservative stocking rate, so that the land remains productive and resilient.

At Umbearra we manage everything from breeding heifers and maiden cows to turning off heavy steers. Our track record reflects a deep respect for country, a keen focus on herd health and an understanding that sustainable management ensures longevity.
