What to expect?

Life on the station is unlike anywhere else — wide open spaces, good people, hard work, and plenty of reward. Here’s what to expect when you join us, and what to bring to make the most of life out here.

General Information

  • Location: The stations are situated about 3 hours (320 km) south of Alice Springs, providing access to supplies, services, and flights while still offering the peace and space of true outback life.

  • Climate: The climate here is typically arid, with hot summers and mild, dry winters. Summer temperatures often reach the high 30s to mid-40s °C, while winter days are warm and sunny with crisp mornings that can drop close to freezing. Rainfall is low and unpredictable and usually from summer storms. It’s classic desert weather: plenty of sunshine, big skies, and cool evenings perfect for a fire.

  • Access: The properties are reached by well-maintained dirt roads. A car is not essential but is definitely an advantage and provides freedom to get off the station during time off.

  • Lifestyle: Remote living means wide open country, quiet nights, and a close-knit team that feels more like family.

  • Social Life: Kulgera Roadhouse is located 38km from Umbearra Station (168km from Idracowra) which provides a social hub for the community. Erldunda Road house is located 94km from Idracowra. There are also a few social events nearby (Races, Rodeos, Motokana's etc) that our crew love to attend each year if cattle work permits.

  • Dogs: Generally dogs are not permitted.

Living Conditions

Because our stations are in remote locations, all team members live on site. We provide full board with comfortable accommodation and quality facilities as part of your employment package, which includes:

  • Staff have access to Wi-Fi (additionally mobile coverage is available within a 5 km radius of the Umbearra homestead).

  • Our staff quarters include single rooms, each fitted with air conditioning. It’s comfortable, tidy, and a great place to unwind after a day’s work. This also includes a shared laundry.

  • You’ll be well-fed out here — our cook keeps everyone going with fresh, home-cooked meals Monday to Saturday. Sundays are your day to relax and cook for yourself.

  •  All bedding and towels are provided.
