About us
We’re the McKay family — Angus, Kimberley and our 3 children — and we’ve been running country on the border of South Australia and the Northern Territory for 3 generations. Our journey began when my grandfather (Leith) took up a lease at Umbearra in 1944 and since then the land, the livestock and the family have grown together.

We believe in doing more than simply raising cattle: we’re custodians of country. Our operation is built around three core values: family, land stewardship, and quality beef production. From the rugged sandhill ridges to the flood-out country and creek lines, we live and work in some of the most remote, beautiful, and challenging terrain Australia has to offer.

Over the years we’ve refined our approach — we focus on strong genetics (notably our Red Angus-cross programme), on sustainable stocking rates and on looking after the rangelands so they’ll still be in good shape for our children. We’ve adopted best-practice land management, drawn on expert advice, and built a team that shares our commitment.
As a family-run enterprise we’re hands-on every day, and we believe our success is built on hard work, respect for the land, and the people who make it run. We invite you to learn more about our stations and our team — and to consider joining us if station life is your kind of life.
